A Tough Weekend in Thailand

Australian racing driver and good friend and partner of Mudtamer, Jackson Rice, has just spent time over at the Chang International Circuit competing in the Super Endurance Thailand. Pairing with fellow Australian and driver of the Mudtamer ute in the Asia Cross Country Rally, Mike Freeman, the pair faced a weekend filled with its difficulties.

In practice one they managed P7 overall and P3 within their class so it was obvious the pair had pace! Taking their Mazda into qualifying, the team put together a solid result starting from P11 on the grid for race one. During the race they made a solid start and were leading their class until they were met with a couple of misfortunes. A small electrical problem and lower ball joint failure took them out of the race and left the pit crew with a lot of work to do in 8 hours with qualifying for the second race looming.

In the final race, Jackson had a brilliant start and was making great pace. Unfortunately, like the rest of the weekend, it was not meant to be. He was hit with a gearbox failure which saw the end of the weekend’s action for him and the team. Unfortunately these are the ups and downs of motorsport and while they are frustrating for the drivers, the unpredictability is one of the things that keeps us coming back for more!

Mudtamer go Cross Country in Asia

As you may or may not be aware – every year a tough and unforgiving off-road race is held where competitors test their driving, endurance, navigation skills and teamwork. The Asia Cross Country Rally (also known as the AXCR) is the ultimate test for the 4 wheel drive vehicles and drivers that enter as they traverse anywhere from 2000-4000km’s of swamps, river crossings, jungle and desert over the span of 6-9 days. It has been running since 1996 in South East Asia and has really gained itself a loyal following amongst off-road and 4×4 enthusiasts worldwide.

This year we have partnered up with the Feeliq Innovation Motorsport Team to sponsor their absolute monster of a Ford Raptor. This will be driven by Michael Freeman and Chaiya Chommalee as they put it through its paces and show what the vehicle is really capable of.

Although the event has reasonably tight rules around modifications that can be made to the vehicle – a few things have been done to ensure the drivers stay safe and know where they are going! Powered by a 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel engine, this raptor can definitely go the distance. On the interior, the team have added a full roll-cage, rally spec gps, and racing seats with full harnesses. We even managed to get in a set of Mudtamer floor mats which is impressive given the less than standard floor of this ute – we think if you’re looking for protection you can’t hit the trails without them!

Given Mudtamer’s toughness both in appearance and durability – we couldn’t think of a better place to be involved than with a 4×4 race famous for testing the limits of these both. We will be watching very closely and offering our full support of the team as they chase top results!

#1 – OEM Fitting Retention Points

All of our mats are designed and manufactured with clips in place that fit with your vehicles OEM clipping locations. This will prevent any movement in the mat while you drive and ensures that your mat won’t end up slipping behind your brake or accelerator. This is a big issue seen in lower quality or carpet mats as they easily move while driving or climbing in and out of your vehicle. We have even designed a unique clipping system for vehicles that don’t come with OEM clipping points – giving these vehicles the same safe locking in features of those with them.

#2 – Deep Cockpit & Footwell Protection

The front of our mats are designed to come right up the front of your vehicles cockpit. This brings them up past your brake and accelerator to ensure there is no interference while you drive from A to B. Mats can get stuck on your throttle creating what is known as throttle lock where it becomes pinned down preventing you from stopping the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous which is why we were meticulous when designing our product to ensure that it would be avoided.

#3 – Textured Heel Pad

We have designed Mudtamer floor mats with a textured heel pad. Not only does this help give the mats their tough appearance – it also works to keep your foot in place while driving. Cheaper mats can be extremely slippery which can lead to your foot not sitting securely while driving. The small bumps on our heel pad keep you in place no matter the footwear.
